Is God ever asleep in our lives? Unaware of what’s going on; apathetic towards the circumstances in our midst?

The Sons of Korah asked this in their psalm and the disciples asked this in their boat.

Despite our eaten apples, unfaithful kings, idolized stars, and ability to quickly forget the manna and 5,000 fed, He is not asleep.

From the dawn of time, though we are not needed, we have been wanted. And thus He has made a way for us to meet with Him, hear from Him, have breakfast by a bonfire with Him.

He may have had to turn His back but for a moment when the flood rose and the curtain tore, but He remembered Noah and He brought Christ out of the grave.

He made a promise to Abraham, assured him that he wouldn’t be the father with a sacrificed son. He provided Moses with a temporary solution in the law to maintain that promise. He gave us a portable tabernacle, leading us by pillars of clouds and fires. He gave us access to His holiness through the temple in Jerusalem. He has always shown us, time and time again, that He is awake and aware.

Which led to the arrival of our eternal solution. Through the body of a young girl and in a town not known for one good thing, the new David, the true temple, the Sacrificial Lamb arrived and nullified our need for blood on our doorposts. This man, this son, this God, who spoke earth into creation, gave us direct access to His person, and then to His Spirit.

No more need for priests to enter on our behalf, or hikes to the top of Mt. Sinai to see His presence. We may now boldly approach Him, because of His compassion towards us and His patience to repeat Himself. And this offer is available to all, regardless of our status within the church or having been born a Jew in Galilee or a Gentile in Athens. He is not apathetic towards your life. His Spirit is in us and around us, never deaf to our cries.

Perhaps, if He is resting, we ought to too. Perhaps, if He is going off to pray, we ought to too. He is eager to help us, hear us, give us peace, and be found by us. All that’s required is that we search for Him with all our hearts and souls. He did not forget Abraham’s ancestors and He has not forgotten you either.
